Bruno the bear
"Bruno the Bear was shot on June 26, 2006, by enigmatic murderers…" reads the cross on the spot where the unfortunate creature breathed his last breath, near Kümpflalm, Bavaria. Germany spent weeks last summer following the misadventures of the brown bear who made his way from Italy to Austria, and finally to Bavaria. His fondness for stealing sheep and rabbits raised the ire of farmers and caused Bavaria's environment minister to issue a shoot-to-kill order to bring down the unwelcome visitor, the first brown bear to be seen in those parts in 170 years. On Thursday, German media reported that Bruno was being stuffed and would be exhibited by the end of the year.
